The ship began the year in “the walled city” of San Juan, Puerto Rico, followed by three-day visits to the distinct American ports of New Orleans, Louisiana and Galveston, Texas. Arriving in Mexico in mid-January, the vessel affords residents and guests a chance to experience the ancient ruins of Veracruz’s Totonacas Indians, and spectacular open water diving off the island of Cozumel. Next, The World visits Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands, where residents and guests can traverse Seven-Mile Beach and tour the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park. Come February, the vessel docks in the Panama Canal, an inspirational waterway steeped in history. Combining stunning locales with tradition-rich ports is a trademark of The World, known for its selection of seldom-visited destinations that will truly captivate its sophisticated and well-traveled clientele. February rounds off with stops in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, as well as Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, where tropical jungles, vivacious nightlife and sport fishing await. The World travels to Hawaii in March, with plans to explore the lava pools and volcanoes of Kailua-Kona’s National Park, experience superior snorkeling and golfing on the island of Lahaina in Maui, and feast on the cuisines and the 150-year old history of the capital city, Honolulu. A 10-day Pacific Ocean cruise follows with excursions to the Suicide Cliffs, Banadero Caves and Bird Island on the Mariana Islands, followed by three days in Keelung, Taiwan, home to a night market at the city’s temple gate. April – one of the best times of year to be in Japan, when clear skies, cherry blossoms and a mood of spring celebration abounds – takes Residents and Guests on a 20-day exploration of such famed cities as Okinawa, Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Once affected by atomic bombing, these vibrant cities now exemplify the country’s ability to rebuild itself as a powerful market force. The World continues makes its home in Asia in May and June, including a five-day stop in South Korea, the natural gem nestled between China and Japan, strongly identified by its abiding culture of Confucianism. A month of port calls in China follow, exposing the wonders of Shanghai, Nanjing and Hong Kong, as well as remote locales such as the sacred mountain of Putuoshan and Xiamen, an economically important harbor town. Next will be nine days in the Philippines, including visits to Tacloban, where General MacArthur visited, Cebu and its chocolate hills and Bora Cay and Manila. The World travels to Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand
in July and will also visit the oil-rich Islamic sultanate of Brunei for
two days. While in the area, Residents and Guests will explore Ho Chi
Minh City, the largest city in the country, on a four-day excursion. Excellent
museums, botanical gardens, temples and pagodas serve as cultural inspirations
within this bustling industrial center of Vietnam. The end of August and the month of September bring
The World to the naturally beautiful cities of Australia, a country known
as much for its dense tropical rainforests as for its perfect beaches.
Given its immense size, ports in Australia have been selected with the
utmost care, to provide a comprehensive yet compelling travel experience.
Making the first call at Darwin, Residents and Guests will experience
a crocodile farm and pearl hunt in this colonial city. A stop in Brisbane
will afford passengers time for local brews at thriving roadside cafes
and visits to the legendary local museums. The World travels to the South Pacific islands
in November. En route to Fiji, the vessel will make calls in New Caledonia
and Vanuatu. After touring these quietly beautiful, natural jewels, the
vessel arrives in the stylish tropical paradise of French Polynesia. For
eight days, those aboard the vessel will enjoy the coral-filled lagoons
of Bora Bora, the heart-shaped island of Moorea and the black pearls found
almost exclusively in Papeete.
